With the release of PaperPort 11 Nuance implemented a new policy governing the number of activations allowed on the product after it is installed, three activations, at which point you must contact customer service to request activation of the product. I have been using the product since it was first released and have happily upgraded with each new release, I have even developed products for customers that incorporated PaperPort in a paperless office system. I’m an independent software developer and IT consultant and up until now, a happy 10 year veteran of PaperPort. You can set up folder systems, and search routines with x-1 (free search utility) and never look back at Nuance again. But with the capabilities of Acrobat Pro, you just don't need it.

If you spent the asking price of 199 for PaperPort then 250 for the Fujitsu software is not much of an added cost.

(If you computer bombs, you can't uninstall!!!!) I have switched to almost exclusively Adobe Acrobat Professional version 8.x and it works every time, has extremely clear output from my scanner (Fujitsu 4120C via ScandAll utility) and Adobe is extremely friendly to their customers.Īs far as document management - Fujitsu is now making a relatively good doc management program as well. I have been using PaperPort 11 for about 2 years now and my real problem is that since Windows has a tendency to crash and needs to be reinstalled with frequency, the activation that Nuance i using creates unnecessary hassle, since you can only activate 3 times unless you can do an uninstall while connected to the internet. Except to say that I have uninstalled PaperPort 11, and gone back to pre-Nuance version 10. With trepidation, I called Nuance tech support again, and the 30 minute odyssey into tech support hell will not be chronicled here. All attempts to remove the offending watermarks failed, even after following Nuance's web page advice.

I kept getting a watermark across every scanned page referring to a third-party application trial copy. However, when I recently upgraded PaperPort 10 to PaperPort 11, I discovered that the method of scanning into PDF format was also buggy. The excellent PaperPort program that I have used for organizing scanned documents for some years, seemed untouched by the Nuance disaster. The great Dragon software franchise has been ruined by poor tech support, buggy installs, and a host of other problems. I have posted before about the lousy tech support provided by Nuance, the successor to ScanSoft, in my ill-fated efforts to install Dragon Naturally Speaking.
